Rosemount 5408 is a two-wire, nominal 26 GHz FMCW non-contacting radar level transmitter for continuous measurement of liquids, slurries and solids. It is used for tank or silo monitoring and process control, including demanding conditions such as turbulence, foam, condensation, build-up and corrosive media. Model 5408 is a configurable series, so the complete model code and application data must be verified before quotation.
The Rosemount 5408 is a two-wire non-contacting radar level transmitter based on FMCW technology. It continuously measures the level of liquids, slurries and solids without contacting the process medium. Smart Echo Supervision tracks multiple echoes and distinguishes the actual product surface, supporting reliable measurement in tanks with internals, turbulence, foam, condensation or build-up.
Standard reference accuracy is ±2 mm, while an ultra-accuracy option provides ±1 mm. The standard 5408 measures up to 40 m; the ER extended-range option supports up to 150 m under suitable application conditions. Output options include 4-20 mA/HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus. Antenna type, process connection, wetted materials, pressure rating and hazardous-area approvals are selected through the complete model code.
The Rosemount 5408:SIS is a separate safety-oriented configuration certified to IEC 61508 for SIL 2 applications, with SIL 3 capability under the specified architecture. Final selection must be checked against the process medium, vessel geometry, range, accuracy, temperature, pressure, antenna, flange, communication protocol and required approvals.
